On a dry day Keynsham went to Lockleaze to play the plate final. The pitch was very heavy (there had been a game just before) and Keynsham had the advantage of the large slope and wind. The pack really took it to Clevedon with a lot of possession. After 10 minutes the 1st try came from set piece. From quick ball, Zac dummied and went through the middle. John converted. The second try started from a line out, various pick up and goes and finally scored by Leo and converted by Zac. With a few minutes to go in the first half, a good backs move allowed John to slice through to score. Again converted from wide by Zac.
Both teams were being physical and our boys were being brutal in the tackle and forward exchanges. The wind was making it difficult to pass, but we kicked intelligently.

Half-time 21-0

Most of the second half was played in Keynsham’s half as if anything the wind had got stronger. It made it almost impossible to kick to clear so K would run out of defence. However we scored first with a breakaway try scored by Lenny. Clevedon did not give up and had started to get their forward drive going aided and abetted by the slope and scored 2 converted tries. The clock was against them and K ended up deserved winners especially for their defensive display.

Special mention to Chris Bradley who stepped in at the last minute and reffed the match. The original ref was stuck in Jersey!
