Keynsham 66 North Bristol 32

Nick FALCONER8 Apr 2022 - 09:28

Last away match of the season signed off with a win

On a bright and windy day, the U16 boys had their final away match of the season. Due to Bristol Bears callups (congrats to those lads), and some injuries we only had 15 players. A late switch from grass (too hard) to 4G meant the lads were also playing on the unfamiliar surface.

North Bristol started brighter and it wasn't long before they had scored their first try. It came about using their large forwards to punch holes in our defence. Keynsham responded though through a well taken try by Hayden.
North Bristol were highly motivated and went to take any point opportunities, and kicked a penalty then scored another try to take their lead to 8 points. The next 10 minutes or so were all Keynsham and scored two tries, one by Thomas and the other a delightful chip and chase by Jake. With the latter try being converted, Keynsham took the lead for the first time. Hoping to hold out and take a breath at half time, Keynsham just couldn't withstand some concerted pressure by North Bristol who retook the lead on the stroke of half-time.

HT 19-20

The second half was a completely different story. Despite having no subs, the boys fitness and skill levels really shone through and scored 6 tries to North Bristol 2. Whilst North Bristol's were scored by their large forwards again, the Keynsham ties were a combination of team set plays; speed of the backs and sheer determination. Notable mentions were a brace of tries by Harrison on his debut, another hattrick (good thing no jugs yet!) by Dan, and a solo effort by the team's swiss army knife Fin! He played as a flanker on Sunday and was outstanding but we really can't work out his position, is it prop, flanker or winger!
Jake finished off the try account as well as taking over the kicking duties and kicking 7 conversions.
Overall it was an excellent team performance, well done boys!

FINAL SCORE 66-32
Scorers:
Tries: Dan 3, Harrison 2, Jake 2, Fin 1, Hayden 1, Thomas 1
Conversions: Jake 7
